21 of the best things I’ve ever done

Recently I took my own advice and wrote a list of the best things I’d ever done. It’s a nice thing to do for yourself – to remind you of all the things (big and small!) you’ve done to improve your life.

When life gets busy, it’s easy to get down on yourself and feel like you’re not making progress. So, it’s good to take stock from time to time to actually recognise all the cool stuff you’re actually doing, and have done, for yourself.

So, presenting, in no particular order, 21 of the best things I’ve ever done.

I hope it inspires you to think about all the ways you’re looking out for you, too.

  1. Invested in a super firm mattress. 
  2. Gave birth to my son
  3. Started treating my office like it was a real room that was worthy of my best treasures, not the “spare room made into an office”.
  4. Got remote control blinds. Now I actually use my blinds!
  5. Got tiles and put them on my keys, Michael’s keys, in my wallet, and on our remotes and never lost anything again (for my iPhone /iPad /MacBook I use ‘find my iPhone’ app)
  6. Took care of my financials and invested in a good accountant, financial planner and real estate adviser
  7. Got rid of my pillow for sleeping- I sleep flat on back and it’s done wonders for my back and neck.
  8. Splurged on annual holidays – I’ve realised that I need adventure in my life.
  9. Set aside ‘me time’ every night to read in bed (a challenge with a newborn, but I do my best!)
  10. Learnt to admit my fallibilities – I’m crap at managing people, I always think I’m right, I’m stubborn, I find it hard to see things from other people’s point of view. I know these things about me and so now I can work on improving them, figure out ways for my team and I to work better.
  11. Accepted the fact that I need and want a coffee every morning!!
  12. Competed in the Kona Ironman 
  13. Starting drinking fire tonic.
  14. Said NO a hell of a lot more times than I said yes! My guide to saying No here.
  15. Jumped off a cliff at in Hawaii (The southernmost point of the US)
  16. Learnt to freedive
  17. Stopped trying to be trendy at the airports and went with what was comfy (sneakers, yoga pants, singlet top, hoodie)
  18. Started yoga
  19. Prioritised stuff that makes me feel good – aka surfing!
  20. Made practising gratitude a daily habit.
  21. Added ‘yet’ to my self talk when trying new things. More on this here

    1. Given birth to my two beautiful children
    2. Started a network marketing business
    3. Invested in my personal development (i.e. reading/meditation)

      Gave birth to 3 beautiful children and watched them grow into Adults
      Married the man I truly love 27 years on
      Started to believe in myself that I am a good mum and wife but most of all a good person
      Worked for 35 years and now due to illness have to be content in retirement
      And everyday I celebrate that I’m still alive

  • Raised two incredible human beings who continue to have my heart bursting with pride
    Took a chance on love after walking away from a 17 year abusive relationship, met my white knight and married him 5 & a half years ago
    Took a redundancy from a high paying job to invest in my over-all health, which left me questioning why at times but at least I’m still here to ask the ??
    Threw myself back into my art practice and have slowly started to put my work out into the world…… the response is good so far 😀
    Established boundary lines with family and friend, stuck too them which meant loosing people – including family which has been hard but very theraputic for me health and well being wise
    Paid out my credit cards, cut them up, read the barefoot investor and am now a proud saver and respecter of money
    Have recently started on the path to better health, checked in with my doctor, am now on a medicare funded health program, cut out alcohol and now working on high sugar carbs…… baby steps but proud of my progress so far….

    1. Married my best childhood friend.
    2. Giving birth to three beautiful daughters and adding two wonderful bonus children.
    3. Going to the U.K with my husband to meet my husbands Grand Aunt on the Isle of Wight. Which also meant i could go to Harry Potter studios! 😉

    Awesome practice! I often find myself reminiscing on pass highs and lows. Being a mother, I seem to seek more self praise. Even my lows have made me a better human being. No longer waiting for another adults praise on my accomplishments and strengths. More fulfilling spiritualy and emotionally. Because what is best for my soul may no be where another mothers soul needs be, or has arrived at. Top 5 accomplishments I’m proud of
    1) Giving birth to three children with no complications
    2) Stopped living pay check to pay check.
    3) Working with high tech machinery and losing my fear of them
    4) handling construction tools and building things
    5) oil painted a 5ft x 4ft flower canvas and people offering to buy it
    6) getting organized (frees up space in my mind 😁)
    7) practicing yoga
    8) serving others instead of coming up with a dozen excuses to avoid helping others
    9) having no college debt or credit card debt
